摘要 A transmitting section makes light, intensity-modulated by a modulating signal of a sine wave having a designated frequency, be incident on one end side of an optical fiber which is a measurement object. A feature value determining section converts the light, which exits from another end side of the optical fiber, into an electric signal, and finds, from the electric signal, a predetermined feature value of a signal component having a frequency equal to the frequency of the modulating signal. A computing section obtains a nonlinear refractive index of the optical fiber to be measured from the predetermined feature value by calculation corresponding to the predetermined feature value based on a nonlinear Schroedinger (Schrödinger) equation.
