The device (1) for refuse collection comprises at least one container (2) for collecting refuse with which means (5, 6) for detecting the characteristics of said refuse are associated which are connected to means (4, 7) for memorising information relative to the refuse and/or to a user. The procedure for refuse collection consists of detecting the characteristics of refuse thrown into a collection container (2) and transmitting information relative to such characteristics to a control unit (8) suitable for interacting with memorisation means (4, 7) which hold memorised information relative to a user and/or the refuse.
