Sludge dewatering device and process

Device for dewatering slurries and mixtures containing slurries, such as clarified sludge, industrial sludge and other slurry-like starting products comprises a box (4) arranged over a sieving belt (1) so that it can be lifted and lowered. A seal (5) lies between the box and the belt, and the box can be filled with the slurry. A pressing plate (10) sealed with a sliding seal (11) against the inner wall of the box can be lifted/lowered using a pressure device (9) and pressed on the slurry in the box with variable pressure. An Independent claim is also included for a process for dewatering slurries using the above device. Preferred Features: The pressure device is a hydraulic cylinder-piston unit. The device also comprises a moisture sensor which releases a signal to the pressure device when there is a lack of pressurized water and the pressure is applied on the plate until enough pressurized water is present and/or the switching pressure is reached.
