A gas compression system, especially for air, comprising a compressor and a cast wall or duct with an internal flow path for slowing down the gas from the compressor, in which a section of the flow path with an essentially unmachined internal surface is provided with a heat-resistant coating. A gas compression system, especially for air, comprising a compressor (especially a centrifugal compressor) and a cast wall or guiding system (duct) with an internal flow path for the reception or transmission of gas leaving the compressor or compressor blades (especially for slowing down this gas flow) and an essentially unmachined internal surface along a section of the flow path, in which the wall or duct has a heat-resistant coating along that section of the flow path. Independent claims are also included for (a) a turbocharger for an internal combustion engine, with a turbine driving a compressor as above; (b) an internal combustion engine with a turbocharger as described in (a); (c) a gas turbine machine with a gas compressor, an expansion duct for expanding the compressed gas and a combustion system for the expanded gas, incorporating the compression system described above; (d) a method for improving the efficiency of a compressor or centrifugal compressor (especially for a turbocharger, internal combustion engine or gas turbine machine) with a cast wall or duct for compressed gas, by providing at least parts of the internal surface of the wall or duct with a heat-resistant coating which reduces the surface roughness. |
