A chair comprising at least one actuator for adjusting the configuration of the chair and a handset (8) comprising a plurality of buttons (10,12) for controlling the operation of the or each actuator, wherein the handset (8) must be enabled prior to use, by pressing a plurality of buttons (10,12) thereof in a predetermined sequence or combination. The handset may be disabled after a preset time or by operation of a single button or a plurality of buttons.
