The instrument (10) has a body including a flow channel (28) extending in a longitudinal direction. A shut-off unit (34) configured as a ball is movable between a closure position where it lies on a sealing edge at a flow channel and a release position where it frees the channel. An actuator (35) moves the ball between the two positions in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the channel.
