The tongue (10) for sports footwear with a high upper and lengthwise reinforcement, has a central upper zone (9) that is less rigid than the rest of the tongue, while the reinforcement has a central element and two side elements (1) acting together, and a zone with greater resistance to flexure over the instep. The central element of the reinforcement is less rigid than the side elements, and the zones of different rigidity can be made by using a material with different thicknesses and/or different materials.
