PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting deformability of blood cells are provided, thereby rapidly detecting the deformability of blood cells using a small amount of samples. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting deformability of blood cells comprises a flow restrictor tube(21); a sample reservoir(10) connected to one end of the flow restrictor tube(21), so that a liquid sample can be introduced into the vessel; a waste sample reservoir connected to another end of the flow restrictor tube(21); a pressure sensor(27) detecting the pressure difference between the waste sample reservoir and atmospheric pressure; a vacuum producing device(40); valves(25) opening and shutting the vacuum producing device(40), the waste sample reservoir and the pressure sensor(27); a light source above one side of the flow restrictor tube(21); a screen reflecting image diffracted through the flow restrictor tube(21) from the light source; an image obtaining device from the screen; a processor(51) connected to the pressure sensor(27) and the image obtaining device and calculating the shear force and deformability rate of the sample; and a printer(54).
