PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for positioning a printing table in an ink jet printer in which the printing table can be surely positioned with a good working efficiency, and an ink jet printer. SOLUTION: According to the method for positioning the printing table in the ink jet printer, both a moving table 25 for moving an ink jet head loaded on a carriage 24 in a horizontal scanning direction, and the printing table 101 where a printing object is set are moved relatively and minutely, whereby a reference side as a positioning reference of the printing object at the printing table 101 is positioned in parallel to the horizontal scanning direction. A parallelism measuring jig 201 is set at the carriage 24 to face the reference side. The printing table 101 is positioned relatively to the moving table 25 on the basis of the measurement result of the parallelism measuring jig 201 by moving the carriage 24 in the horizontal scanning direction with respect to the printing table 101.
