PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially easily applicable, simpler and more effective method for producing a high-purity thiocarboxylic acid and its salt and causing little environmental influence, and to provide an easily applicable and simple method for measuring optical purity of an optically active tetrahydrofuran thiocarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: The thiocarboxylic acid or its salt is produced by reacting an acid halide or acid anhydride with a metal salt of hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a base. The optical purity of an optically active tetrahydrofuran thiocarboxylic acid is measured by alkyl-esterifying the optically active tetrahydrofuran thiocarboxylic acid and analyzing by chromatography using an optically active column.
