PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for uniformly applying lubricant thinly and uniformly by feeding a small quantity of particularly the high viscous lubricant on the outer circumferential surface of a sintered compact. SOLUTION: A coating apparatus is composed of 2 divided segments 8a, 8b capable of incorporating and separating around the cylindrical part 2 of the sintered compact 3 and made of a porous material. The coating apparatus is provided with an oil applying means having an oil applying member forming a ring like inner circumferential surface in contact with the outer circumferential surface 4 of the cylindrical part 2 of the sintered compact 3 by the incorporation of the divided segments 8a, 8b, an oil supply means for supplying the fixed quantity of oil to the divided segments constituting the oil applying member and a rotation means for rotating at least one of the sintered compact, and the oil applying member.
