RECOMBINANT PRODUCTION OF NEW POLYKETIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a genetically engineered cell and a new polyketide and effectively produce both the new and a known polyketides utilizing a recombinant technique.

SOLUTION: This cell comprises a nucleic acid encoding a plurality of modules of modular polyketide synthases (PKSs) and introduced thereinto. Each module comprises at least a PKS acyltransferase (AT) activity, a PKS ketoacyl carrier protein synthase (KS) activity and a PKS acyl carrier protein (ACP) activity and the introduced nucleotide sequence encoding the PKS modules is operatively linked to at least one control sequence. Thereby, the cell is capable of producing functional modular PKSs. At least one of the nucleotide sequence encoding the modules corresponding to the functional mudular PKSs or at least one of the control sequence is heterologous to the host cell.
