PURPOSE:To make it possible to transfer binary/multivalued data with a few signal lines by selecting resolution of the multivalued data for enabling serial transfer. CONSTITUTION:An engine section 3 outputs picture element clock signal (WCLK) equivalent to 1200dpi. Resolution of a data to be transferred is set from a serial controller 2 to the engine section 3 at page unit through a command status line 10 dependent on a printing data. The command status line 10 is a serial signal line where operation setting signal in the engine section 3 such as selection of paper feed tray from the controller 2 or operation state signal in the engine section 3 such as error state from the engine section 3 is exchanged between the controller 2 and the engine section 3. Accordingly, even if the signal line between the controller 2 and the engine section 3 is eliminated, binary/multivalued data can be transferred and a printing data sent from a host computer 1 can lee printed at the engine section 3 without complicated processing of magnification conversion. |
