PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine surely and conveniently communicating between an external side infrared ray communicating device and the washing machine by infrared rays without any trouble. SOLUTION: This washing machine is provided with a casing 2, a washing/ dewatering bin 4 incorporated in the casing 2 and storing clothes, a motor rotating the washing/dewatering bin 4 and a washing shaft 12, control means 6 operating the motor 7, etc., and controlling washing, rinsing, and dewatering operations of the clothes according to the setting of a user, and a washing machine side infrared ray communication part 16 receiving and/or transmitting an infrared ray signal relative to an external part side infrared ray communication device 20 transmitting and/or receiving information related to the control as the infrared ray signal. The washing machine side infrared ray communication part 16 is disposed in a part outside the casing 2 and separated therefrom and connected to the control means 6 via a wired signal line 33.
