PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phosphorus-containing polycarbonate and a resin composition having excellent flame retardancy. SOLUTION: The phosphorus-containing polycarbonate contains the structural unit represented by formula (1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>, which may be substituted, each indicates a linear or branched alkyl group, one or more of methylene groups in the alkyl group may be substituted by -CH=CH-, and R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may be identical or different or may form a cyclic product containing P or not containing P; X indicates an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; and Y and Z each indicates a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, or a linear or branched alkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy, allyl, aryl or cyano group, Y and Z may be identical or different, and Y and Z may form a cyclic product).
