PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation tube which is used for introducing a combustion gas onto the surface of a steel material for locally heating so as to accelerate soaking of the steel material in a billet heating furnace of a walking beam system, and which is prevented from being warm caused by reaction with scale and has excellent durability. SOLUTION: This radiation tube for a heating furnace is produced by using, as a base material, a ceramic containing Si as a main component and arranged at the lower part of a support member supporting a billet and used for introducing the combustion gas. On a part, being brought into contact with the scale fallen from the surface of the steel, of the surface of the radiation tube, a protective layer of a metal oxide having a porosity of≤21% is provided so as to cover the part. The metal oxide is a substance which does not react substantially with the scale and the base material at least at 1,400°C or forms a reaction product not melting at the temperature even when the substrate reacts with them.
