PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that the machining accuracy of a workpiece and the positioning accuracy of a spindle are degraded, the size of the headstock is increased, and the cost is high in a rotary shaft headstock with the spindle moving in the axial direction. SOLUTION: A headstock body 21 of the rotary shaft headstock is fixed on a table of a machine tool. A ram 24 sliding in the axial direction of a rotary spindle 23 is provided on the headstock body 21. The rotary spindle 23 is built in the ram 24, and a reduction gear 30 and a motor 32 are integrally fitted to a rear end of the ram. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
