PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spot welding system that prevents lateral runout of a welding tool caused by rotation in the case of spot FSW by accessing from one surface. SOLUTION: The spot welding system 10 is composed of an articulated robot 11, an FSW head 12 to be attached to the tip end of the robot arm, a base 13 for holding a workpiece W horizontally, and a controller 14. On the FSW head 12, there are mounted a welding tool 15 and a fixing device 16. The fixing device is equipped with a cylindrical pressurizing member 19 and a spring 18. The pressurizing member 19 is pressed against the surface of the workpiece W by the spring 18 at the time of welding, thereby temporarily fixing the welding tool 15 on the workpiece W. Thus, the lateral runout due to rotary reaction of the welding tool 15 is prevented from occurring. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
