PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to individually control transmissivities of light transmitting pixel areas by individually forming cell gaps appropriate for pixel areas respectively, thereby realizing color compensation. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of gate lines(22) is formed on a first insulating substrate. A gate insulating film covers the gate lines. A plurality of data lines(62) crosses the gate lines on the gate insulating film for defining first, second, and third pixel areas. Thin film transistors(TFT) are electrically connected with the gate lines and the data lines. A passivation film covers the thin film transistors and the data lines, and has contact holes(72) exposing drain electrodes(66) of the thin film transistors. A pixel electrode(82) is connected with the drain electrodes through the contact holes. The passivation film and the gate insulating film have aperture patterns(Pr,Pg) formed at the first and second pixel areas. The aperture patterns are piled on the pixel electrode.
