PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast recording and reproducing device capable of surely preventing illegitimate copies or the like by impersonation even in the case of recording and utilizing a scrambled broadcast program. SOLUTION: In the case of reproducing a program recorded on a recording medium 200 removable from the device main body, a second security module 110 having been used for recording is used in place of a first security module 100. Further, in the case of authentication between the security modules, unique information to identify the first security module 100 is recorded on the second security module 110, in the case of reproduction, authentication is made between the first security module 100 and the second security module 110 so that a descrambling key cannot be outputted from the second security module if the legitimate first security module 100 having been used for the recording is not connected to the device main body.
