PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an idling control device which prevents delay in control and unnecessary idling stop control. SOLUTION: A millimeter wave radar 11 detects movement of a vehicle ahead of the leading vehicle of one's own vehicle. When one's own vehicle stops following the stop of the leading vehicle, an ECU 14 automatically stops the engine and controls to bring the vehicle to idling stop state. It also controls the engine of the vehicle to idling stop state in accordance with the movement of the vehicle ahead of the leading vehicle which is detected by the millimeter wave radar 11. Furthermore, the ECU 14 starts the engine and controls to bring the vehicle to idling start state in accordance with the movement of the vehicle ahead of the leading vehicle. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
