METHOD FOR TREATING WASTEWATER CONTAINING HIGH CONCENTRATION OF NITROGEN USING ELECTROLYSIS

PURPOSE: Provided is a method for treading wastewater containing high concentration nitrogen using opened and closed type electrolysis apparatus so as to generate only harmless nitrogen gas. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the step of performing electrolysis of wastewater containing high concentration nitrogen while maintaining Cl concentration to 5,000 mg/L to remove nitrogen in the wastewater in accordance with chemical equations such as (i) 2NH4+2e→N2↑+4H2 by cathode reducing action, (ii) NH3+2HO- → 0.5N2↑ +3H2O+3e by direct anode oxidizing action, and (iii) 2NH3+6Cl-→N2↑+6HCl+6e- by indirect anode oxidizing action.
