<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for a diesel engine which purifies the exhaust gas in good performance using a trap filter of catalyzed continuous regeneration type, while demerits with such a trap filter of conventional arrangement are eliminated. <P>SOLUTION: In a casing where a downstream exhaust pipe is fitted to one end and an upstream exhaust pipe is fitted to the side face in its position nearer the downstream exhaust pipe, the trap filter whose surface is coated with an oxidizing catalyst is installed in such a way that a gap is reserved with respect to the casing through a supporting member and the space between the periphery of the trap filter on its outlet end face side and the casing is blocked, so that the exhaust gas having flowed into the casing from the upstream exhaust pipe can flow in along the periphery of the trap filter to the inlet end face, whereby the exhaust gas having flowed down inside the trap filter flows out via the downstream exhaust pipe from the outlet end face of the filter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
