PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic cellulose fiber produced by supporting a photocatalyst composed of titanium oxide fine particles on a cellulose fiber substrate and exhibiting suppressed oxidative decomposition of the cellulose fiber caused by the titanium oxide photocatalyst.
SOLUTION: A slurry containing a siliceous raw material, a calcareous raw material, water and 10-125 pts.wt. (solid basis) of a cellulose fiber based on 100 pts.wt. (solid basis) of the sum of the siliceous raw material and the calcareous raw material is subjected to hydrothermal reaction to obtain a cellulose fiber substrate coated with hydrated calcium silicate and having the primary particle of the hydrated calcium silicate crystallized on the surface of each cellulose fiber constituting the cellulose fiber substrate. A photocatalyst composed of fine particles of titanium oxide is supported on the surface of the cellulose fiber substrate coated with the hydrated calcium silicate to obtain the photocatalytic cellulose fiber.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
