PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable method and apparatus for precisely detecting the edge of an imageable printing plate for imaging or other imageable medium for imaging mounted on a drum or other support surface of the imagesetter or the platesetter of an inner surface type drum or an outer surface type drum. SOLUTION: This system comprises the outer surface type drum for supporting the printing plate of an unprocessed image, a light source for orienting light in a direction vertical to the drum entirely, a movable mechanism including an optical sensor for detecting reflected light emitted by the light source, and at lest one groove formed at the drum for preventing the light from the light source from being reflected to the optical sensor.
