<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyelectrolyte composition having excellent constancy while maintaining essentially possessed high proton conductivity and useful as a proton conductive membrane such as an electrolyte for primary batteries, an electrolyte for secondary batteries, a solid polyelectrolyte for fuel cells, a display element, various sensors, a signal transmission medium, a solid capacitor and an ion exchange membrane. <P>SOLUTION: 1. The polyelectrolyte composition comprises (1) the polyelectrolyte and (2) an antioxidant containing (a) at least one kind of compound selected from the group consisting of a phenolic hydroxy group-containing compound and an amine compound and (b) at least one kind of compound selected from the group consisting of an organophosphorus compound and an organosulfur compound [with the proviso that the compound of (a) is not included in the organophosphorus compound and organosulfur compound of (a)]. 2.
