<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an organic electroluminescence element and a display device and an illumination device using the element from being deteriorated due to moisture absorption and oxidation. <P>SOLUTION: In this organic electroluminescence element, at least a reflective layer, a light emitting area including an organic material, and a transparent or semi-transparent electrode are sequentially formed on a substrate. A translucent protective film is formed on the transparent or semi-transparent electrode. The protective film comprises a multi-layer film formed by laminating multiple layers of at least two or more types of thin films having different refractive indexes. The refractive indexes of the thin films sequentially laminated on the upper electrode are set to N1, N2, N3...Nn, and the ratios N(n-1)/Nn and Nn/N(n+1) of the sequentially laminated adjacent refractive indexes of the thin films are set to 0.8 to 1.1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
