<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is necessary to move a parallax barrier in a horizontal direction or the like synchronously with the switching of right and left parallax image displays in a conventional stereoscopic image display device. <P>SOLUTION: This display device is provided with an image display means 1 for alternately displaying right and left parallax images in time division, first and second polarization elements 2, 4 having two kinds of polarizing action areas (a), (b) in which polarizing action for transmitting and interrupting incident light in accordance with the polarization direction of the incident light is fixed alternately in the lateral direction and a polarization conversion element 3 for converting the polarized state of image light obtained from approximately the whole of the display surface of the means 1 are arranged on the exit side of image light from the means 1, and a control means 5 which switches the polarization conversion state of the element 3 synchronously with the display switching of the parallax images in the display means 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
