PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colored latex colored in a sufficiently dark color and superior in determinability by visual observation and detection sensitivity when used for immunoassay. SOLUTION: The colored latex is made of a group of colored latex (for example, polystylene-based latex) particles of the degree of particle dispersion of 10% or less, of an average grain diameter between 0.05-3.0μm, and of an average specific gravity between 1.02-3.0, and the content of a coloring agent (for example, solvent blue) in the group of colored latex particles is of 10 wt.% or more. The colored latex is obtained by adding the group of latex particles in an organic solvent solution of an oil soluble dye and heating or heating and agitating it to make the group of latex particles contain the oil soluble dye.
