PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient portable telephone in which safety sufficient for preventing unauthorized use can be ensured by a minimum necessary authentication work carried out without being noticed by a user. SOLUTION: When a user takes a portable telephone 1 in one's hand, a control section 12 issues a command for starting temperature detection to a temperature acquiring section 15. The temperature acquiring section measures the temperature at a constant time interval and transfers acquired temperature information sequentially to a temperature comparing section 16. The temperature comparing section makes a decision whether the temperature information acquired at the temperature acquiring section falls within specified conditions or not, and issues a command for acquiring the finger print information of the user to a biological information acquiring section 19 depending on the decision results. The biological information acquiring section acquires biological information of the user and transfers it to a biological information authenticating section 20. The biological information authenticating section compares the acquired finger print information with that of an owner stored in a biological information storing section 21 and makes a decision whether it is an authorized user or not.
