PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk player that can be miniaturized and manufactured at reduced cost. SOLUTION: The incorporation of an integrated damping system 13 within the base of the disk player eliminates the requirement for the manufacture and assembly of separate rubber AV mounts. Additionally, because the damping system 13 is integrated with the base, the allowed clearance between the disk and the inner surface of the base can be reduced. This reduction enhances the miniaturization of the dimensions of the disk player. As a direct result of this miniaturization, the overall wind drag experienced by the disk is reduced, resulting in reduction in the current required to drive the spindle motor. An obvious advantage of this will be an increase in the lifetime of battery cells employed by portable disk players. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
