PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of the detecting processing of inclination or direction of image data and the character recognition processing thereof. SOLUTION: An image appropriate part forms a contracted image of image data when the resolution of the image data is larger than a prescribed resolution R1 (step S701: Yes), and detects the inclination of the image or the direction of a document after binarizing processing (step S705). When the resolution of the image data is smaller than a prescribed resolution R2 (step S706: Yes), the part forms an enlarge image of the image data (step S707), and performs a character recognition after binarizing processing (step S709). Accordingly, the efficiency of the processing for detecting the inclination of the image or the direction of the document by use of the contracted image data can be enhanced, and the precision of character recognition can be enhanced by the enlarged image data.
