PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of surely detecting glass pieces and opaque foreign matter deposited on the bottom of a bottle, regardless of a position of the foreign matter. SOLUTION: This device for checking whether the foreign matter 10 exists or not on a bottom part 1a of a glass bottle 1 filled with the liquid, comprises a lighting system 2 mounted at an upper part of the glass bottle for illuminating the inside of the glass bottle 1 from the upper part of the glass bottle 1, and a CCD camera 3 mounted at a lower part of the glass bottle 1 and picking up the light transmitted through the bottom part 1a of the glass bottle 1. A diffusion plate 4 and a Fresnel lens 5 are mounted between the bottom part 1a of the glass bottle 1 and the CCD camera 3, and the light transmitted through the diffusion plate 4 is picked up by the CCD camera 3 through the Fresnel lens 5.
