PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter checking device for a container capable of detecting foreign matter existing in the container, and defects in light shielding property of a black part and the like of the container without being affected by the shade and shadow of a projecting and recessed part formed on a barrel part of the light translucent container. SOLUTION: This device for checking whether the foreign matter exists or not in the container B provided which irregular parts on its side face, comprises a lighting system 2 for illuminating the container mounted at a side of the container B, a CCD camera 3 mounted at a side opposite to the lighting system 2 through the container B, and picking up the transmitted light emitted from the lighting system 2 and transmitted through the container, and an image processing device 4 for processing an image obtained by the CCD camera 3. A diffusion filter 5 is mounted between the container B and the CCD camera 3, and the light transmitted through the diffusion filter 5 is picked by the CCD camera 3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
