PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for detecting artificial lighting in a scene. SOLUTION: In a method for detecting the presence of artificial lighting in a scene, at least a frequency is predicted as to a variation in lighting in the scene, and light from the scene is measured at a periodic rate different from any periods of the predicted frequencies by the use of an exposure length different from any periods of the predicted frequencies. When light from the scene to be measured contains a periodic change, it is found that artificial lighting is present in the scene. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
