PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhausted mud treatment method and an exhausted mud treatment apparatus for inexpensively dewatering and reducing the weight of exhausted mud that is produced in a pipe jacking method in a limited space. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus for treating exhausted mud comprising the mixture of excavated earth and sand and muddy water that are produced by underground excavation due to the pipe jacking method by heating and drying, the exhausted mud is heated and dried by waste heat that is recovered from a private power generation means for pipe jacking construction with fuel as an energy source during pipe jacking work. Then, during change operation of programs, the exhausted mud is heated and dried by the recovered exhausted heat and hot heat that is supplied from an electric heating conversion means with the supply power in the private power generation as an energy source.
