PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the remaining majority users use the digital image even when only part of users need to authenticate the image. SOLUTION: The method of authenticating an image, in which the digital still image captured from a digital image capture device is authenticated afterward in process, includes a step of transmitting signature data from a remote location to the digital image capture device, a step of associating the image discriminating information with the captured digital still image, a step of applying the sign data to the digital still image and generating a authenticate signature that represents the digital still image, a step of associating the authentication signature with the image discriminating information, a step of transmitting the authentication signature to the remote location, and a step of storing the signature data, the authentication signature, and the image discriminating information in the remote location.
