PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is made compact although the device is equipped with a high-performance high variable-power zoom lens system. SOLUTION: The zoom lens system is provided with a 1st lens group having a positive optical power as a whole and including a right-angle prism equipped with an internal reflection surface for bending a luminous flux at nearly 90°, a 2nd lens group having a negative optical power arranged with leaving a variable air distance from the 1st lens group, a 3rd lens group having a positive optical power arranged with leaving a variable air distance from the 2nd lens group and a 4th lens group having a positive optical power arranged with leaving a variable air distance from the 3rd lens group in this order from an object side, and the power is optically varied by varying the air distance between respective lens groups.
