PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an injection molding machine of a simple structure which can realize sure protection of a dynamic brake device, combined with a motor mounted as an actuator from overloaded state, and to provide a method of protecting the injection molding machine. SOLUTION: This injection molding machine includes a motor, a dynamic brake device, which is combined with the motor and consumes the regenerated power of the motor as the load, and a controller which outputs a drive output signal to the dynamic brake device and controls the dynamic brake device, consuming the regenerated power of the motor; this controller estimates the load applied to the dynamic brake device, based on the drive output signal outputted to the dynamic brake device, and determines whether the dynamic brake device is in overload state, based on the load estimated.
