PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar display device having high airtightness of a sealing part, and improving reliability, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A vacuum envelope 10 of the planar display device has oppositely arranged back base board 11 and front base board 12, and an almost frame- shaped side wall 13 arranged between peripheral edge parts of the front base board and the back base board. The back base board and the side wall, and the front base board and the side wall are sealed by sealing layers 15a and 15b respectively. A spacer member 22 for maintaining the sealing layers in the prescribed thickness is arranged between the side wall and at least one of the front base board and the back base board.
