<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film with light convergence and controlled scattering and transmission characteristics that can display an image with excellent visibility and luminance when used for a liquid crystal display, etc., and observed from the front. <P>SOLUTION: The optical film 10 comprises at least two phases 11 and 12 which are different in refractive index; and the phase 12 which has a large refractive index has a columnar structure which extends along the thickness of the film and the columnar structure slants at 25 to 90° to the normal direction of the film. The linear light transmissivity of the optical film increases as the angle of incidence of light increases in a negative from a vertical diction L<SB>1</SB>to L<SB>2</SB>and then L<SB>3</SB>, and decreases as the angle of incidence of one light beam varies from L<SB>1</SB>to L<SB>4</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
