PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new onium salt that bears an anion other than general anions, e.g. 1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium bistrifluoromethanesulfonimide or 1- methyl-3-butylimidazolilum trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and is useful as an electrolyte for nonaqueous electrolyte solution. SOLUTION: The onium salt is represented by general formula (I): äR1- C(=O)-}äR2-S(=O)2-}N-Z+(I) (wherein R1is an unsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon; R2is a monovalent organic residue; Z+is an organic onium), e.g. comprising an anion component, e.g. 2,2,2-trifluoro- N-(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)acetamide anion and an organic onium ion, e.g. tetramethylammonium cation.
