PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a three-phase AC-DC converter compact in size. SOLUTION: A primary winding N<SB>1</SB>of a transformer 2 is connected between the center point of a Y-connection circuit of first, second, and third bidirectional switches Q<SB>1</SB>, Q<SB>2</SB>, and Q<SB>3</SB>and the center point of fourth, fifth, and sixth bidirectional switches Q<SB>4</SB>, Q<SB>5</SB>, and Q<SB>6</SB>connected to three-phase AC input terminals 1a, 1b, and 1c. The first to third bidirectional switches Q<SB>1</SB>-Q<SB>3</SB>and the fourth to the sixth bidirectional switches Q<SB>4</SB>-Q<SB>6</SB>are controlled, to turn on or turned off in this order.
