PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape and a magnetic tape cartridge which have superior servo characteristics and hardly suffer reduction of the reproduction output due to off-track even in the case that [(the recording track width)-(the reproduction track width)] is narrow, namely,≤16μm (more specifically≤10μm). SOLUTION: With respect to a magnetic tape 3 in which a servo signal for tracking control is recorded in a magnetic layer or a back coat layer and [(the recording track width)-(the reproduction track width)] is≤16μm, an edge weave quantityα[μm] existing in one tape edge 3a being the running reference side for tape running or a tape edge on the opposite side is≤1.5μm, and the thermal expansion coefficient in the tape width direction is (0 to 10)×10<SP>-6</SP>/°C.
