The piston (10) is hollow, with an inner cavity (12) that has its open end (11) closed by a plug (20) with a face (21) and peripheral surface (22). The plug has a centering element in the form of a milled edge round its peripheral surface, where it has an outer diameter (24) greater than the inner diameter (14) of the cavity by about a tenth of a millimetre. The fitted plug is fixed in place by brazing its outer edge (25) to the inner surface of the cavity.
