Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display (LCD) device mainly includes a first substrate, a second substrate and a-liquid crystal layer provided between the inner-surfaces of the first and the second substrates. The first substrate has a plurality of pixel regions arranged in a matrix, wherein each of the pixel regions is provided with a switching element (e.g., TFT), a reflection electrode (as an ambient light reflector) and a transmission electrode (as a backlight transmitter). The second substrate is provided with color filter elements for displaying colors and a common electrode. The LCD according to the present invention is characterized by having an extra color filter layer provided in each of the pixel regions of the first substrate for improving the color saturation in the transmissive mode.
