EXPANDABLE, NO-SHRINK SHIRT COLLAR

A shirt collar (13) wherein the neckband (11) and the collar (13), is made of stretchable material that yields circumferentially when a circumferential tensile force is applied thereto, and which shrinks only neglibly circumferentially with shrinkage of the neckband. The neckband (11) comprised a warp (8) and weft (9) threads includes at least some of the threads arranged on a bias so that in the event of the shrinkage there is only a megliable reduction in the circumferential size of the collar, and the collar is stretchable in a direction parallel to the circumferential direction. The neckband, made of a non-elastomeric material, has a plurality of holes (101, 102) therein which elongate when a tensile force is applied circumferentially to the neckband, resulting in elongation of the neckband. The stitching (20) forming the seams attaching the collar to the neckband, and the neckband to the body of the shirt is applied in a pattern, e.g., zig-zag or skip stitching, that enables the seams to stretch in the circumferential direction of the collar.
