A method for clock synchronization of a communication network in which several network elements (NEx) relay their available clock information to adjacent network elements (NEx-1,NEx+1). Each network element (NEx) during relaying of clock information additionally transmits information (z,w) concerning the error rate of the clock information on the basis of its conduction through the network element (NEx). Independent claims are given for the following: (A) A network element with at least one microprocessor and one program store. (B) A computer program product. (C) A data carrier.
