The staple is placed by an appliance having an actuator, moved by a tool. The actuator acts on a pressure element (4), which is moved in longitudinal direction of the staple (1) from a rest position to a pressure position. The element deforms a holder (3), e.g. an expanding sleeve, so that it projects over the circumference of the bore for the staple, and presses it against the area around the bore in a component (14) to be connected.
