The FTRD described comprises a removable cartridge body (700) that contains a new load of staples (708) for use in the FTRD. The cartridge body (700) can be removed and replaced with a new one once the staples have been used. Rotation of a main shaft (788) by the physician causes the staples to be fired and the blade (750) to be moved along a pre-determined path to cut the stapled tissue. Tactile and audible feedback is given to the physician when the stapling phase is complete and the cutting phase is to begin.
